A couple from Reedley were driving to the hospital for their baby to be born when their SUV broke down!
Maribel Gonzalez was ready to have her 4th child and figured there would be plenty of time to get from her Reedley home to Visalia's Kaweah Delta Hospital. Her husband came home to take her and as they were driving down the 99 the SUV they were in broke down at the side of the road. He called 911 and CHP Officer Thomas Nevarez who was joined a short time later by Sgt Chris Webber arrived on scene. They ended up having to move Maribel to the back seat and deliver the baby since there was no time to get to the hospital and the ambulance had not arrived.
As the baby was born the cord was wrapped around her neck, the Officer removed it and baby Natalia started to cry. She even grabbed Officer Nevarez' hand with her little finger. Wanting to see baby Natalia once more Officer Nevarez paid the family a visit at Kaweah Delta, complete with It's a Girl Cigars, flowers and gifts! Sgt Webber sent a special CHP onsie for Natalia too!
Way to go California Highway Patrol! And congratulations to the Gonzalez family on their beautiful baby girl, Natalia!
